Just a quick reminder that we’re hosting the first Las Vegas Burners SPAGHETTI DINNER at our home this Friday from 6pm onwards. This is a place for newbies to get answers and pick the veterans brains in a non party environment. It’s a great place to just meet people, discuss your Burning Man 2009 plans, or get help on a project you’re finishing up too. The only dumb question is the one you don’t ask us because if we don’t know we know who does know.

We’ll be showing some of our vast collection of Burning Man videos and have our photo albums out from years past so this should be a lot of fun. We’re hoping this can happen every month going forward and we’re looking for other community members to host so speak up.

FREE FOOD! That’s right YOU DON’T NEED TO BRING ANY FOOD! We are preparing a yummy meal of spaghetti with meatballs, garlic bread, and a huge salad with drinks. If you want booze then BYOB and please drink responsibly. This is a family and kid friendly event, so bring a swimsuit, a towel, and a chair because it’s gonna be crowded and the pool is simply wonderful!

No pets please we have enough of our own, woof.
The address is 3548 Middlebury Ave LV, NV 89121
Howdy all, Las Vegas burners, I got a call today from Jonesy, burning man art coordinator, who has approved some things I built and refer to as 'Rainbow Ramps', basically a couple of 2' high by aprox 4' to 5' wide skateboard and bmx launch ramps, quarter pipes, slant ramps, and a stripper pole painted all various colors meant to be a 'thing to be discovered' out by the orange trash fence. (Please see photos and basic sketch below).

And after a dui while riding my 49cc moped earlier this year (yup, those basic playa freedoms dont' really transfer back to the default world as 'the other man' would have you know) I have been wiped out financially. I got that thing after a 60 hour work week trying to save up money for my art and whatnot for burning man this year.

A bit about me, my name is john (or Serial Carpens, my art persona, or plain ole' MG Nos at burning man) and attended my first burn 10 years ago in 1999 as a resident of northern California, I've since been in Las Vegas almost 8 years and have picked up the ball again since regarding burning man just these past few years, gas is quite a bit different coming from las vegas than berkeley!

Hope this message goes to the right folks!

Anyway, if anyone has a flatbed truck with some room or a large cargo van or whatnot, Please! Feel free to give me a call and discuss, I also would be needing a ride up but would be packing in a complete minimalist style and would have all my stuff well organized ( I also have a camp up there that I'd be staying at, Camp Chop Shop). In terms of getting the ramps up there, myself, preferably both, I hopefully would have a couple hundred dollars ($300 or so) to put towards gas/ your trouble for doing this, etc. As someone who grew up with skateboarding and bmx I personally would love to have something like this at burning man to just hang out by and blow off some steam, I'm sure other people would love it too, here are some pics of what I have so far, please call John Nos 702-265-2136

This is something we’ve wanted to try for some time so here goes!

We’re creating a monthly event/non-event to get acquainted with newbie’s and to socialize with each other in a safe non party atmosphere. We’re calling this a “Burner Spaghetti Dinner” and we’re hosting this first one at our house, directions below. We hope that future events can be held at other people’s homes too!

This is family and kid friendly, no pets please. This is something different than has been done here in the past. We have a lot of first year Burners amongst our little community these days and we thought it would be cool to create an event where we could meet them and help everyone get ready for the playa.

We will provide everything; you don’t need to bring any food!

We are serving Spaghetti and meatballs, garlic bread, salad, and water and soft drinks. If you want beer you need to bring that, BYOB. Bring a swimsuit & towel, the pool is wonderful!

We will be showing some of our vast collection of Burning Man videos and have our photo albums out of past years burns for everyone to gawk at too.

This is not a party, this is just us opening our home up to the community for the purpose of networking and resource sharing. We hope this can continue on a monthly basis year round!

See you Friday August 14 at 6PM

PLEASE FORWARD
****************************************************
Announcing the sixth annual Las Vegas SANTA RAMPAGE! Friday December 19, 2008 in Las Vegas! Last year we had so much fun on Fremont Street that we’re doing it again!

Santa is pissed off this year folks, between the elves ongoing union organizing, (dental plan?!?) the Chinese embargo of lead based toys, coupled with the rising cost of reindeer food, and FAA regulations regarding sleigh flight paths Santa is hurtin’ and he’s ready to take it out on the unsuspecting public in a big way! Lets make those bastards will pay for Santa’s pain damnit!

Join Santa, Friday December 19’th at 7PM on Fremont Street in Las Vegas in front of Fitzgerald’s at the Christmas tree for a Santa Rampage to remember!

Here’s the rules Santa (Santa hates rules but some Santa’s need a reminding from time to time because, well, they’re Santa)

1. YOU MUST BE IN COSTUME TO ATTEND SANTA RAMPAGE. Putting a Santa hat on over street clothes does NOT cut it. PLEASE DRESS UP as a Santa, an elf, a reindeer, Hanukah Harry, or something festive of your choosing, but either way as is always the case: DRESS UP OR STAY HOME. We’re really serious about this guys, Santa Rampage is a 100% no spectators event. Santas tip: Red Santa’s blend in better and can make more ‘holiday mirth’ he he he.
2. This is a 21+ event as Santa will be spending time in bars along the way.
3. Don’t mess with little kids! Nothing screams ‘please kick my ass Dad” like making a little kid cry. DON’T DO IT. Kids take Santa VERY SERIOUSLY. DO NOT approach kids unless you check with the parents first. DO NOT hand anything to kids unless you check with the parents first. Santa’s tip: The best strategy it to simply avoid little kids whenever possible.
4. But along those same lines; BRING TOYS OR GIFTS to give out along the way. People LOVE to get free stuff from Santa, think cheap lightweight gifts that you can easily get too. This Santa’s favorite gift: army men (they keep you safe).
5. Don’t mess with the cops OR hotel security. These casinos don’t give a damn about Santa and we will leave your happy ass to your fate if your start any trouble in a Casino Santa. Always do what they say, when they say it. If Santa is asked to leave a Casino then Santa will wait out front until the next departure time and then move as a group. See schedule below Santa.
6. Don’t mess with shops or retailers. If you start trouble, if you break something, if you get into an altercation of any kind, Santa will leave you to your fate. Santa’s got a schedule to keep and Santa doesn’t care that you can’t handle your booze or whatever. Making holiday mirth is great, but be NICE. After all you’re friggin’ Santa Santa!
7. STAY TOGETHER AT ALL TIMES. “No force on earth can stop a hundred Santa’s” is true, but there are a lot of forces that can stop one or two Santa’s. Not everyone ‘gets’ Santa. Particularly as we get later into the evening; there’s power in numbers, USE IT.
8. NO ONE IS IN CHARGE. The answer to almost every inquiry is simply “SANTA” Examples: Who are you guys? Santa. Who organized this? Santa Why are you doing this? I’m Santa What’s the special occasion? I’m Santa Can I take a picture with you? Santa needs $5 or a beer (!). Every year Santa is amazed that certain Santa’s fall out of character and point at this Santa while saying ‘Well this guy is in charge or he organized it”. NO NO NO. Lets stay in character Santa ok? I am Santa, YOU are Santa, Santa is Santa. See a pattern here Santa? Great!
9. Bring some spending money. Even if you don’t drink booze bring a few bucks for snacks or fluids. Though this is a FREE EVENT, stuff still costs money and hugs won’t buy you a soda or bottle of water. Santa’s drinking tip: BYOB in a well concealed flask or bottle. Oh yea; BRING YOUR I.D. SANTA (friggin’ DUH!) See other drinking tips below Santa.
10. EAT DINNER BEFORE YOU ARRIVE. Every year Santa is amazed that certain Santa’s want all of Santa to wait while Santa goes off for a burger or something. Please don’t expect Santa to wait for Santa Santa. Show up hydrated and well fed and you will have a great time Santa. Santa has a schedule to keep Santa.
11. SHOW UP ON TIME. Getting to Santa Rampage will take longer than you expect. Please show up on time for Caroling Santa! We are meeting at 7PM in from of Fitzgerald’s on Fremont Street at the Christmas tree.

OTER STUFF and tips Santa has learned from over 6 years of rampaging:
• Caroling: Santa will provide you with the Santa Rampage lyrics, Please don’t print your own. Santa will have PLENTY of copies for everyone. This way Santa can stay on the same page (all pun intended) when singing our perverted Carols for the public.
• WEAR GOOD SHOES. This is A LOT OF WALKING. No really ladies in particular, those 6 inch stilettos make LOOK great with your naughty elf costume (meow!), but 3 miles into our trek you WILL be dying and Santa needs you with us all night! Santa strongly suggests that you choose FORM over FASHION for this event. Or, bring a pair of sneakers too perhaps?
• Check your costume before you leave the house. It’s okay to buy a Santa costume the day of Santa Rampage (well not really, slacker noobie Santa), but try it on first and see how it works, like if the pants are going to fail, if it has pockets, is it WARM enough, how you’re going to carry all of your stuff all night, etc. Santa’s tip: do a complete costume shake down the day before the rampage to check for and correct any problems.
• Balanced drinking strategy. This is a marathon night and will wear you out. This Santa prefers to drink two alcohol drinks and ONE non sugar, non caffeine drink to offset the booze. This maintains a happy buzz while not getting too loaded too soon. That would mean two beers and one water, and maintain this ratio all night. This Santa has seen numerous Santa’s go ‘down the drain’ by over drinking too early in the evening. This ratio ensures a happy and hydrated Santa well into the wee hours. Santa’s tip: if you’re not peeing then you’re dehydrated. This Santa has also learned that the more loaded Santa gets the LESS fun Santa has. (who knew?) This Santa’s just sayin’ Santa.
• GET A ROOM SANTA! Rooms on Fremont Street can be had for around $49 or less. It’s really nice for Santa to have a room to escape to after (during?) the rampage. This prevents Santa from getting a DUI or worse when Santa has had enough rampaging. See links below.
• Be ready to have the MOST FUN YOU WILL EVER HAVE WITH YOUR CLOTHES ON. Santa Rampage, Santacon, Santarchy, call it what you want to but this has been going on around the world for many years. Las Vegas is simply THE BEST PLACE to do this in the U.S. and Santa guarantees you a rampage to remember. Last year we had over 50 well prepared and cacophonous Santa’s. Can we top that number this year? You tell us Santa. Tell your friends, make sure they understand the rules and come in costume. Come prepared for fun Santa!!

Santa will see YOU Santa on Fremont St, at 7PM in front of Fitzgerald’s at the Christmas tree. Santa needs to say this again too Santa, because every year some dumb ass poseur/spectator Santa shows up not in costume expecting to be welcomed by Santa; Putting a Santa hat on over street clothes DOES NOT CUT IT. DRESS UP OR STAY HOME SANTA.
No really……. Jeesh.

Please note: This is morphed from last year’s schedule. Santa still needs to do recon down on Fremont in the next couple of weeks to verify this schedule will work for Santa completely. Again, please check the list for any updates Santa. If this changes, Santa will post it to that list Santa.

Final checklist:
Burning Man food for Friday and Saturday nite. It's going to be in
the high 80's during the day. (I don't remember what it's like to be
outside without my skin frying to a crisp). The lows will be high
60's. Can't beat that. We can play in the water all day and it will
by a guardian/parent.
Accessibility: RV friendly if you go slow and stay off the soft sand.
Low riders type cars may have probs but the average car can make it
Directions: Go over Hoover Dam, set your odometer. Go 2 miles to
Take that dirt road for about 3 miles. It ends at the beach.

What to bring: Pot luck dish, firewood, your radical self reliant
self that will leave no trace.

We could use boats, kayaks, jet skis, life vests and water toys. A few
pop up shade structures would be good too. Bring drinking water,
This mission, called the So-Cal Decompression will commence
on October 17th (Friday) and end on October 19th (Sunday).
The burners call it So-Cal Decom because it represents many
parts of Southern CA, including Orange County and the Inland
Empire (Riverside/San Bernardino) areas. It is a weekend,
More details will be given as the event gets closer.

The lowest tier of tickets is sold out (200 tickets) so the next tier
Burners Mission to Mars.

Data received in recent months from the Red Planet indicate that life
could survive on Mars. A group known as Burners have volunteered
to make the first large scale mission. Authorities were apprehensive
at first to let non-government agencies make this trip, but after careful
analysis of the Burner community it was made clear that this group of
people is extremely resourceful and capable of dealing with the unknown.

Burners are going to dispense with the glossy space program as we know it.
Mark your calendars for the 18th of October when the Burners will group at a
Top Secret Location to begin this project.

First tier Decom 08 tickets will go on sale in the next few weeks.
We will post the exact time and date soon. So get your space suit

Burning Man ticket Raffle is on!

That's right for just $5 YOU can get a chance at one ticket to Burning Man! Tickets to Burning Man 2008 are currently $295 on the web and there will be NO GATE SALES this year either. Yikes! So, here's your chance to get ONE TICKET for the ridiculously low price of just $5. How can we do this? We must be CRAZY to make this kind of offer! Dark Skies was gifted an extra ticket and we want to help a deserving burner and we're doing a fund raiser as well, so to tie it all in we're raffling this ticket off for $5 per entry. The drawing will be held on August 11th when we will announce the winner who will be selected by Peaches the Jack Russell Terrier rummaging in the ticket bowl.
Purely non-scientific but a lot of fun nonetheless!

TO ENTER: send $5 PER ENTRY via PayPal to darkskies@vegasartists.com
You may purchase as many entries as you wish, they are $5 each.
Each $5 entry buys you ONE CHANCE at winning this free ticket!
Good luck and have a great burn in 2008!

It's time for our next full moon campout! We are heading back to Kingman Wash Beach at Lake Mead. It's the last campout before Burning Man so let's wear our burner threads and test out our latest costumes and creations. The potluck dinner theme is red, white, and blue food.

When: July 18-20, Friday @ sundown till Sunday @ sunrise.
Where: Kingman Wash Beach, Lake Mead
Potluck theme: Red, White or Blue food
Who: You, your kids.... if you bring a dog you are responsible for it at all times! Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian/parent.
Accessibility: RV friendly if you go slow and stay off the soft sand. Low riders type cars may have probs but the average car can make it down the road.
Directions: Go over Hoover Dam, set your odometer. Go 2 miles to Kingman Wash road, it's a left turn and goes under the new bypass bridge road. Look for mile marker 2, the road is right in that area. Take that dirt road for about 3 miles. It ends at the beach.

What to bring: Your radical self reliant self that will leave no trace. We could use boats, kayaks, jet skis, life vests and water toys. A few pop up shade structures would be good too. Bring drinking water, camping supplies, sun screen and good vibes.
There is at least one boat going so far, maybe some jet skis. I'm working on a kayak connection but may need transportation help with them.

Yup it's gunna be hot out there, but just think by the time we get to BM we'll be well acclimated to the daytime temps and won't be bothered by the heat there... the playa dust is a whole different story tho.

Hope to see you there!

We are also asking most participants to drop their camping gear and park out by the front gate in order to keep the event site open and allow art cars, pedestrian traffic, and bicycles to traverse the site safely. There’s plenty of room on this site for our event, we just have to use it judiciously and creatively. Please please please register your theme camp and art so we know who’s coming!

FIRE
Dark Skies 2008 is operating in a high fire season, and in an area of pristine high desert in a beautiful Joshua Tree Forest. Dark Skies Fire Safety will be operating under the jurisdiction of Meadview Arizona Fire Dept. All final decisions regarding fire will be up to them.

•	Fire performers will be allowed i/e: poi staffs breathers and all other hand held fire performance toys.
•	Small propane flame effects; ie hand held puffers and small lpg flame effects with neither having a vertical flame length exceeding 10ft unless pre approved will be allowed.
•	Fire barrels; fire barrels will be provided and maintained by event staff and will be in community areas.
•	No personal burn barrels and fireplaces unless pre-approved in advance of the event.
•	All generators used will be required to have an abc fire extinguisher and a pointed shovel within 20 ft at all times.
•	Tentative fire times will be between 7pm and sunrise. Fire times will be subject to blackout in case of winds sustained in excess of 12 mph.
•	All fire artists and participants must check in with DSFS. DSFS has the final say when it comes to fire of any kind.
•	Smoking is to be conducted on developed and groomed areas only, no smoking is allowed in the vegetated areas of the event site. Leave no trace; never let it hit the ground.
•	Fireworks of any kind are illegal and banned 100% at this event.
•	All fire activities will be restricted to fire performance areas and then only at pre approved times. We will clearly mark these areas on site.

Important fire information; All fire activities may be banned in the case of a regional “red flag alert”. A red flag alert occurs when high winds regionally create a situation whereby all fire activities are banned. This is not the same as the high fire season ban which runs April 15 – Nov 15 and for which we are applying for variances too for this event. This is also NOT the same situation we had last time where CCFD “stuck it to us” at the last minute and bummed a lot of people out. Our hosts want to see fire at this event. But we have to play by their rules. Lets hope for low winds on the weekend of the event!

VOLUNTEER!
The heart of any regional event is the volunteers, and we love our volunteers! We have limited Volunteer opportunities available for Dark Skies.

Please check the website and the event’s news group which is located here
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DARKSKIES_LASVEGAS/

Pictures of the new site are here
http://darkskies.vegasartists.com/pictures/3-08sitesurveyweb/index.htm

The event’s website is understandably undergoing some changes since the move and is here
http://darkskies.vegasartists.com/

Thank you to the community, to our wonderful volunteers, and to all of the artists and theme camps that make this and every regional event so darn special! We cannot do any of this without YOU.

We think it’s GREAT the someone has started a meetup group for the Vegas crew.
The more that people are bringing people together the better, right?

Just to clarify, the official chat group for Las Vegas Burning man is on our yahoo group which is here
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lasvegasburningman/
We also have an announce only list which you can join by sending an email to
lasvegas-announce-subscribe@burningman.com

So if you post here, or on one of the other 6 (at last count) “Vegas Burner” groups here, or on myspace, or google groups or wherever the flavor of the month happens to be and don’t hear back from anyone, you may want to consider getting on one of those lists. Tribe is great, google is great, myspace is great, but Yahoogroups is where it’s at.

Hope that helps.
Love to all,

There are 34 total instructors teaching a wide variety of topics. And yes, the schedule is done...

Can you believe it? December 29th and the schedule is done!!!

Now I know a few of you are going to be irritated because there will be classes you want to take the conflict with each other. I am offering my apologies in advance. *sigh*...if only I had 2 full weeks of classes to fill...then we might have no conflicts. heehee.

Additionally, just because the schedule is done does not mean that I have all the bios/photos/& class descriptions from everyone. Nor is the shopping cart finished. So, for the moment, just the schedule is all I can offer. I know it's a teaser, but it will have to suffice for the moment.

Those of you who have already registered, as soon as I have the shopping cart finished, you will get to actually pick your classes. You will have first dibs!!

I previously stated that once the schedule was done that the price was going up to $295 for the weekend. Well... I also said it wouldn't be done until Jan. 1st. So this is your big chance to sneak in under the radar and register for the Super Early-Bird special. Payment plans are still available and you'll get first shot at the popular classes. Don't miss out...register today!!
My BM friend and I will be in vegas for NYE (+ a few days before and after) and we're looking for some fun burner-style events to attend....especially ones where costumes and facepaint are encouraged.
I can dance to almost anything except psytrance -- i especially like glitch hop, d&b, world, etc....or great live music.
please let me know of fun events!
Friday November 30th, 2007 at the Kingman Wash on Lake Mead, in the beautiful Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

VEGGIESTOCK is a free all ages overnight car camping trip featuring food, fun, freaks, and of course VEGGIES! VEGGIESTOCK is about eating and sharing Veggies of all kinds! That means that along with firewood, you should bring veggies to share and to cook. Any dish containing veggies is welcome at VEGGIESTOCK. Bring your smiles, your drums, bring firewood, bring your (well behaved) dogs and kids, and bring your camping gear for a fun no hassle night with friends new and old on a beautiful secluded cove on the Arizona side of Lake Mead. Earplugs are suggested as well if you intend on sleeping.

This site IS accessible by passenger car!

Directions to VEGGIESTOCK 11/30/07

* From Las Vegas, take 515/US-93 south to Boulder City and then on towards Hoover Dam
* Cross the dam into Arizona and continue for about 2 miles to a left turn under an overpass which is under construction. It's the first 'real' left turn after the dam. This turn is saved as a Google earth (,kmz) file on the Las Vegas Burners Yahoo Group which is here. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lasvegasburningman/files/GOOGLE%20EARTH%20FILES/
* Take this left turn and follow the dirt road about 3.5 miles down to the lake shore, pass the bathrooms and continue down to the waters edge. Someone will be on site starting around 1PM on the 30th, but if you get there first pick us a good spot on the water! We'll be easy to find lakeside. The Google Earth file for this location is also posted at the above link.
* We'll put some VEGGIE signs out at the pavement and along the road in as well.

DARK SKIES 2008 DATES, WE NEED YOUR INPUT!

Greetings, salutations, warm fuzzy cuddle hugs and sonic booms from Dark Skies!
We need your input on matters of scheduling next years event.

Suppose that we only had two weekends to choose from for next years Dark Skies. The third weekend in May, or the third weekend in June. Suppose also that for production costs, read: ticket prices, fire art and public safety that we were going to move the event up to Delamar Dry Lake in Lincoln County, NV which sits at 4700 feet above sea level. Nothing is written in stone yet, we are exploring all options, and asking your opinion on things before the permit apps go into either BLM field office.

Here are our thoughts on the matter of the weather and things Burning Man related...
In May, the Delamar site could be chilly and maybe even wet (from BLM), and in June it could be hot but most likely dry. To put the event in mid May puts us square in the middle of the regional event season. Going in May *could* mean that we experience some rather chilly temps, but it gets us away from Burning Man. It also however puts us where a lot of Burners, artists, and rangers may have to pick and choose what events they want to attend. We’re trying to look at all sides of this.

The biggest decider in this question may be Mother Nature herself.
Or….
What will the weather be like on Saturday at Dark Skies ’08? (the Delamar option)

Here’s some casual number crunching based on ten years of weather data for the Delamar site:

Third Saturday in May, 10 year temperatures for Alamo Nevada, subtract >< 4 degrees for Delamar lake due to 1000 foot higher altitude.
AVG LOW: 43 (sunrise)
AVG HIGH: 77 (3pm)
10 YEAR LOW LOW: 33
10 YEAR HIGH HIGH: 91
10 YEAR LOW HIGH: 66
10 YEAR HIGH LOW: 59

BOTTOM LINE for May: Cooler, one week after Toast! Almost one month before Element 11, two weeks before LIB, middle regional in the season,. If we go in May, it could be as low as 29f and our high could be as low as 62f. That particular f stands for ‘f**k me its cold’.

********************************************

Third Saturday in June data
AVG LOW: 52
AVG: HIGH: 85
1O YEAR LOW LOW: 45 (sunrise)
10 YEAR HIGH HIGH: 100 (3pm)
10 YEAR LOW HIGH: 82
10 YEAR HIGH LOW: 66

BOTTOM LINE for June: Warmer, two weeks after Element 11, two months before Burning Man, last regional of the season. If we go in June, it could be as high as 96f and as low as 49f. We’re getting closer to Burning Man, a mistake we made in Oct ’06 that we don’t intend to repeat. However, in this case we’re before the main event so it could be a great shakedown cruise for art cars, theme camps, and playa art.
Had enough yet? Then please go vote in the poll which is going up right now.

IF we had the choice of either weekend, which one would YOU choose that made the most sense for you the community and for the event itself?
3rd weekend in May, or 3rd weekend in June?

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DARKSKIES_LASVEGAS/
left side of that page “polls”

Thanks and much much dusty love!!

Put bells on your feet and come play with us!

Here's the web description--

From Burning Man to the Vegas Vortex, people are seeking experiential transformation by returning to nature for enlightenment. Magician Jeff McBride and performance artist Abbi Spinner McBride will be our guides for a very special late night excursion into the mysteries of Fire. The Fire element is the agent of transformation in alchemy, and alchemists themselves were known as "Philosophers of Fire." By connecting with the Fire element though its correspondences (movement, dancing, drumming, chanting, and other active meditations), practitioners seek to burn through existing structures of mind and body and release the alchemist's Secret Fire of transformation. You are invited to experiment with this emerging paradigm by attending the indoor fire circle beginning at 10:00 PM Saturday night in Hall A. For complete information, go to Fire Circle Alchemy (http://www.alchemyconference.com/fire_circle_alchemy.htm).

Free admission to all registered attendees; nominal $5 fee for others.

Saturday 10:00 PM - 2:30 AM.
* Get off I-15 at Exit 64, (US-93/Alamo, Ely, Pioche) and head north. (Zero out your odometer at this exit)
* Drive 71 miles north on US-93 to Alamo Canyon Road (dirt) Turn Right, pay attention it’s easy to miss, though we’ll probably sign it with a dead cow or something.
* Turn right and take Alamo Canyon Road about 9 miles east down to the lake bed, we’ll be out there, eating MEAT of course.
My friends from Australia are flying in later in the week, so I am the designated driver - looking for cool crazy people to drive up with.

Leaving Las Vegas on Saturday 25th around lunch time. I have an early arrival pass and can arrange early arrival for you at gate also. I am good friends with the Ice Queen from Artica (centre camp), and will be setting up camp there.

If you can contribute to petrol, that would be helpful. If not, you being funny, unpredictable / crazy is even better.
This is just a ride, not necessarily an invitation to stay in the RV once we get to the playa, unless of course you happen to be a Natalie Portman look a like, then I might make an exception. I'm a 33 year old professional massage therapist, who live in the San Francisco Bay Area, burned many times, helping create the inaugural "Running Man Camp" this year, it's gonna be gooood. You don't want to miss our parties! Due to my last minute RV search, I'm stuck picking mine up in Vegas. Let me know your name, age, experience at the Burn, your camp if you have one, and what you can afford to donate for gas. If you're a comedian, musician, massage therapist, DJ, performer, dancer ( yes that means strippers as well), or just love to take your clothes off, you will go to the front of the line. Did this last year, and had a lot of fun and huge amount of replies, so please book your trip early. I would say I have enough room for about 7 peeps.
I would like to know the protocol for banning? I have yet to get a
reasonable explanation for me, Lora and Becca being banned from
Singularity.
I would like to know why I was removed from these lists last month?
Has anyone else been banned? And if so , why? Who else has been
removed from these lists? And why?
Has any one else been told that they are not allowed to attend certain
parties and if so why?
I would also like to know who the "Core Group" is?
If there is no one in charge, is this group run by a committee?
If so, who are they?
I believe that it is within my rights to ask these questions.
I am a member of this communtiy and intend to stay in it.
I plan on attending Singularity 08 and I would like this worked out by then.
And in case it is an issue, both the IRS and the state of Arizona
consider me a dual resident of Arizona and Nevada.
Thank you
I think it would behoove the "communiy" to have a definite answer as
to whether or not "Dark Skies/Singularity" is an official Burning Man
Regional Event. If 'we' as a 'community' are to participate in
fundraisers to recoup debts derived from this event, we should know
exactly just what we are 'participating' in.

Is Dark Skies/Singularity a Las Vegas Burning Man Regional Event? Or a
Las Vegas Artisits' Event? If this is a combined event, then why is
there no mention of Burning Man on the Dark Skies website? And why is
the Dark Skies Survival Guide sorely lacking in the TEN PRINCIPALS of
BURNING MAN? Why is ALL discussion of the event steered ONLY to the
Dark Skies yahoo group, but not the LASVEGASBURNINGMAN yahoo group?

Who exactly decided to borrow money from other BURNING MAN REGIONALS
and the BURNINGMAN PROJECT to produce this event? There is a 'call'
out on the Las Vegas list to produce fundraisers to alleviate the debt
incurred, but where is the COMMUNITY discussion/decision to do so?

And WHO EXACTLY is the Las Vegas Regional? Is t one person? Two?
Three? or even four by proxy? Who decides this? Why does Las Vegas
need more than one Regional? Do ALL of them get free tickets to
Burning Man?

It is doubtful that any of these questions will be answered, because
it is unlikely that a dissenting view will be allowed to be posted.
However, by the off chance that one of the four moderators on this
list will allow such 'heresy', it might be prudent to ask each and
every one of the aforementioned questions.

So this might be a tried story for a few of my new friends, but left without another street to turn down; I appeal on bended knee to the mercy of the playa; I am in need.

This last weekend was a surreal experience, but I have paid for this venture far beyond my capacity. ((VIXXEN you didn’t tell me the learning experience would be like a brown acid trip)) LONG STORY SHORT; I crashed a rented RV 10 minutes after picking it up, thought the deductible was $500. It doubled my planned budget (including the rental for the RV) for the event, but at this point, why turn back? I do not regret the idea to continue on! Dark Skies, here we are.

REALITY: The RV was turned in on Monday, at what should have been $330 (for just our the half of rental plus ½ the gas) then, $500 in damage from on Thursday. On the Tuesday after we dropped it off the RV the rental company wants another $500 for a total damage deductible of $1000 (above what we spent to get there, etc.) I’m blown away; the wreck was less than 5 MPH (pictures attached.) The whole thing took less than 2 seconds. Our plan was: $300-$400 total cost for the event, which turned into $1500 (RV ONLY), where we still owe another $500. Total fun over $2000, considering entertainment, gas, and … you know. The rental company tells me it’s $1,600.00 for the 2 doors and a small hole. ????? #$*&! Not including the legal responsibility for a ticket for “failure to hold lane”…. %^&*! But that will be another post when I go to court.

SHORT STORY LONG; I have no idea how I’m going to meet our ends this month. Upon the advice of a senior tribe member to myself, I’m appealing to the community. It hurts to swallow my pride and ask for help, but we (Sway & I) live like most people, a small amount of savings/investments, and hand to mouth. This 2 second miscalculation has left me wondering how to meet a few bills this month after emptying every pocket available. For anyone that can, or cares, to help here are the solutions I can propose;

1) Give me work. If you live in the Las Vegas area, I promise you won’t be disappointed. I have a BBA (Bachelor’s of Business Administration) and military experience but I am not above cleaning toilets right now. I painted houses for 3 summers to put myself thru college, some of that was in Aspen, CO. I paint (new construction or exterior repaint preferred) like a mo-fo (I have tools) but haven’t practiced the art for a year. I weld (MIG and TIG) and can drive heavy equipment (moderate experience on most, excavator/forklift known). PLEASE ASK IF YOU HAVE A JOB FOR ME, seriously, I need it but need to make it a full days work considering my commute. Everyone in Vegas wants 3 + years experience for a manager, and I’d need a haircut, no tattoos (I have my ring finger tatted, visibly, 3 initials  (Sway’s)) and if life leads me that way… I have had many mutually beneficial work relations that cared little about these things. IF YOU WANT MY RESUME, PLEASE PM ME. I have a multitude of previous-experience that is not listed. Sales for commission is great if we work out a few details, NO MLM. I can’t make an investment now. SERIOUSLY, this might be the best thing that happened to you, why are you still reading??

2) Stop by and feed us; when you get down to it, that’s the only thing that continues any one’s existence. We live about an hour south out of Vegas, but I’m not posting directions to my house openly. Mail me and we can talk. ESPECIALLY if you’re Dark Skies, close, you’d be welcomed with open arms.

3) Share what you can by paypal; I wouldn’t ask if there wasn’t a need, and I will accept a few loans if anyone is willing and able. Like I started this tirade, someone wiser than me suggested the idea of appealing to the community, and I’m left with this idea and/or salvaging my few meager worldly possessions. I’m fine with promissory notes/contract for more than $50 but less than $200 with a 90 day due date. If anyone can kick a cup of coffee in change, or more, my way it would be blessed right now. Knowing that some of you would come over if you could (smile, wink)… But a cup of joe in change is more realistic all things considered. If you’re not the donating type, can’t put me to work, and still reading. I could use a loan. PAYPAL prefer transfer. I will sign any and make legal any documents AND MAKE GOOD MY WORD. My Pay pal is; midnight420man@netscape.net You will get my attention fastest thru tribe.

I am a real person, those that do know me and have nothing to give, please just give testimony, so those that can give, know I’m not a spammer. I’ve cashed in the change in the cars and my stash spots and I’m still about $400 short of holding my household together. It hurts, as a person to ask, but I am left with little alterative. Anyone who met me and looked into my eyes knows that I’m worth my weight in gold, I ask because I have to.

This plea is only relevant for the next 45 days, after that I will have solved this problem by any means I can. Those that offer advice, (I’m willing to listen if that’s what you have to give and it’s worthy) know that I have exhausted most of my options, gov’t cheese and all. I would prefer work, as long as I am treated as a human, my experience in Vegas has been on the darker side. If anything over our needs is given; it will be reciprocated to others in tribe that have the need. If you search there are many.

I know there are far more worthy uses of your time and energy, dear reader, but if you have read this far, give what you can; advice or otherwise. I’m not e-mailing this to anyone, but if this touches you, please pass it on and give your best advice. I just have to have faith some where, so today I try to create it. If I learned 1 thing this weekend, if you need something; ask for it. So I put this out to the cosmos, as a prayer and a promise. If you can give and do, I will return it when and how I can, ask when there is need. If you’re a tradesman (woman?) that has the ability to help me fix the 2 doors I have sheet metal experience, I just lack the industrial tools (sheet metal brake, small guidance, rivet gun, pipe bender, lords glue), if you’re an insurance adjuster, (we have pictures which I will attach soon). Anything at this point will help.

I have asked, let the playa provide…

Humbly yours,

It’s kinda like a Grimm’s Fairy Tale mashed up with a Greek Tragedy. It starts off with a TON of hurdles to jump over in order to get where we wanted to be (Dark Skies, with all of you lovely people) a fantastic middle where the fun and love happened, and a tragic ending, where we realize what the trip would cost us. So, here goes:

Before the weekend even started, we had arranged to split the RV with some friends who, all but one ended up backing out last minute. The guy who didn’t back out just picked out an RV without consulting us on anything and told us how much we would owe him. Then, LAST minute (Wednesday) told us his girlfriend from LA, whom neither Tuck nor I had met, would be joining us. We were OK, but a bit confused. He asked us to pick up the RV, because we were leaving Thursday instead of Friday like they were. No problem so far. Tuck and I left a bit later than we had originally wanted to. We had trouble getting a hold of the guy we were splitting the RV with, but we were still able to cope. We managed to get to the RV rental place OK, and pick it up. Our friend checked out the RV and took most of the paperwork with him, but we didn’t figure that would be a problem. Little did we know…

On the way over to drop off my car at our friend’s apartment and load up the RV, Mike scraped the side of a garbage truck with the RV, ripping off 2 of the cargo doors and pitting a small puncture in the side. He bent the shit out of the garbage truck’s fender, but no one was hurt. He was going like 5 miles an hour. I may post more pictures. We had NO paperwork on the insurance to give to the cops. But luckily, the other guy DID purchase insurance on the RV. WE figured probably a $500 deductible, plus the ticket and the cost of the RV which was $300 a day. The accident doubled our expected budget, in about 2.5 seconds. OK now, monetarily we’re FUCKED!

Neither of us are currently working steady jobs. I finished out the school year, so no more work or money ‘till Aug. Tuck is working temp jobs, and hasn’t heard from the agency since we’ve been back. I did some auditions and interviews before we left, but also have not heard anything. This trip maxed us out!

Dark Sky itself was a BLAST! We got there around 4 or 5 pm on Thursday and started to set up camp. We had a mellow evening, moseyed around the playa, met some beautiful soles, and made a bunch of new friends, and got to bed and woke up relatively early. We again wandered around the playa and came back to take a nap. The other guy and his girlfriend showed up mid afternoon, tried to insist in the bed Tuck and I had slept in the previous night (the only bed we had fitting sheets for.) and bitched about the mess.

We got both messes straightened out, and thought everything was cool. Tuck and I had planned to leave in my car first thing Sunday morning, and drive through Searchlight and Kingman, so we could pick up our dog from the kennel, instead of going through Las Vegas and over the Hover Dam. Anyway, we got up Saturday morning after bouncing around all night and our friend and his girl announce that they had seen everything they needed to see weren’t feeling well, were going home (in MY car) and leaving us with the RV. Our whole schedule was screwed. We couldn’t get the RV to the rental place before they closed on Sunday (the RV wasn’t due ‘till Monday); we had to call the kennel and get the dog to stay an extra day, we couldn’t get a hold of the guy to get the extra set of keys and square up money wise. We didn’t know where to dump the black water or anything. We ended up leaving the RV parked across the street from the other guy’s apartment.

Well, the next day I offered to drive in to Vegas (about an hour) to meet at the RV place and drive him home. He said that’d be great. Well he ended up dropping off the RV and getting back to his car fine and never called me to let me know. SO I drove an hour for nothing. I rushed out of the house so he wouldn’t be late checking the RV in and he didn’t even find out how much it was all going to cost. Just handed me the $75 gas bill and said there was a $60 dumping fee. So, I wrote him a check for almost ALL of the money in my bank account. $950. I didn’t argue, I just figured it was done and that I’d figure out some way to pay bills.

Well, the next day I got a call from him saying that it was $1,000 deductible and I need to cough up another $500. I just don’t have it. I asked for the phone number to the RV place and called them. They told me it was $1,600. worth of damage! I can’t even imagine! I asked them to Mail me a copy of the report. I don’t have any idea how we are gonna get ourselves out of this mess.

If you are financially able, feeling generous and would like help us out ANY help at this point would be welcome. You can donate to our cause through our paypal account: midnight420man@netscape.net or point us in the direction of work. We live right between Vegas and Kingman, AZ…
so if you have work in either area PLEASE let us know. I am an educator by profession and degree currently, but out of work. I have been a professional singer/actress/dancer. I did art modeling in collage. I have been a tutor, nanny, early interventionalist, and respite care worker. I have worked with disabled children and adults. I am fluent in American Sign Language. I have cleaned houses, babysat, done TONS of clerical work, I’ve even managed to work myself out of a job by turning an 8 hour job into a 4 hour job by streamlining their processes or organizing. So, again if you have work, we are ready willing and able to work for you.

Let the playa provide. Much love! Thanks for listening.

IMPORTANT UPDATES: OMG—It's First Friday Overload! Burner Scott Bank's band,
the Roadside Prophets, is playing at the Aruba at 10 p.m. with
burner Cameron's band, FLUX, playing after that. Then there is the burner
band Black Jets playing at the Art Bar the same night. As we all
follow as burner groupies to our bands of choice for the night, at
some unknown hour there are still plans to make it to Hogs & Heifers.
It is recommend that anyone wanting to go to Hogs & Heifers for some
debauchery meet at the Aruba first and then we can continue the
festivities on "burner time" to Hogs and Heifers. All this and the
amazing art to be discovered in the galleries!

I was reminded by a fellow burner of the burnin' of rubber that will
hit the streets of Las Vegas in force this weekend—The Las Vegas Grand
Prix. Downtown streets are already blocked off and closed for the race
that will be speeding through downtown Easter Weekend!!! South of
Charleston will not be affected around the galleries, but north of
there will be. Valet is recommended for Hogs and Heiffers at 201 N 3rd
St. Approach from North on Stewart. DO NOT APPROACH FROM OGDEN, as
the street is already closed. Link to the map of the closure
(everything within the black/red line will be closed):
http://www.lasvegasnevada.gov/files/Vegas_Grand_Prix_Map.pdf
So in addition to the typical First Friday events, there's gonna be
some rockin' racing parties in force around downtown. Be prepared for
parking headaches and crazy racing fanatics.

Reminder for burner First Friday events (with some time changes from
other postings):
April 6 First Friday Dinner at Casa Don Juan's 7:00-7:30 p.m.ish and
ventures to
the Arts Factory and the Street Fair and then to the Aruba for PROJECT
NOISE…
10 p.m.ish to hear Roadside Prophets with burner Scott Banks
11 p.m.ish to hear FLUX with burner Cameron Grant
Art Bar will also be hosting the Black Jets with burner Chad

and then at some point after to…
Hogs and Heifers at some point past the Midnight mark. Any female is
welcome to get on the barand dance in your jeans and let it rip.
Melissa and I went here last First Friday and had a great time. Now we
want others to join the craziness of this place. A New York Meat
Packing District original bar with bad-ass country music and equally
bad-ass cowboys, come hang with us at Vegas' Hogs and Heffers.

If want to call me for the specific purpose of connecting at tomorrow
nights activities, please give me a ring tomorrow at 443-4815.

Greeting Dark Skies – Singularity, and all Las Vegas crews!

As you may have heard, the wonderful Xara event in San Diego, scheduled for April 20th, canceled this past week due to land management problems, an issue that is near and dear to this writer’s heart. Since Xara canceled, the San Diego crews have been very hard at work working on an event for that same weekend to help build their community, not to replace Xara because it’s irreplaceable, but to bring their community together since so many people were planning on driving down that weekend anyway.

Well, the new event is ON!

It is called Freedom Fest II and it is on private land out in the Desert.

I am writing this letter to encourage anyone reading this to get involved and help this event out. I am asking our front gate, fire, rangers, and city planners to get involved in our neighbor’s event. There is a lot to do and a very short time to make it happen. The event is in one month on April 20’th.

CALLING ALL DEPARTMENTS, can we pull this off? If enough of the Vegas crew is interested we will be renting vans and car pooling down. This is a month before DS/Sing, plenty of time to re set your gear for Roach Lake. If there is any way possible that any of you can help out please let’s talk about it. Community is not just about your little town or hamlet, OR about your own little clique, club or group. Community is about ALL OF US. This is the call for help. Watch this list or any of the other south west lists for more information. We will be coordinating our efforts from Vegas on the main Dark Skies list which is here
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DARKSKIES_LASVEGAS/

This event will be 21+ and it is not a rave. There will be live bands, there will be some bad ass DJ’s, and there will be quiet zones, and I assure you that there will be plenty of food and drink. Much like DS/Sing, this is a camping trip first and foremost amongst friends. And much like our event, this is about community and art.

Let’s talk about this guys, are we up to it?

Hello Dark Skies –Singularity community. Got a few minutes?

Here is the latest news in regards to our permits and the BLM. Feel free to forward this public press release wherever you’d like.

THE NUMBERS.
DS/Sing is going to cost between $25 and $29K to produce. The initial draft of the accounting (pre event) is posted here http://darkskies.vegasartists.com/about/accounting.php it’s still pretty rough and is lacking a bunch of stuff, but you’ll see the nexus of what this takes. We post this in advance of the event because we want YOU the community to buy into this thing and see what it takes to produce it, and realize that nobody is getting rich here. And we want you to buy tickets too. How’s that for blatant honesty? It’s an extremely risky venture at best producing these events. Our ONLY source of income comes from YOU buying tickets to the event.
Anyway…..
BLM Law Enforcement (LE) is asking for $34,600 in LE fees for the May event.
Event budget - <>$27K, LE fees - $34k. See a problem here?

After being approved for the upcoming May event this past December, we have received a ‘Cost Recovery Estimate’ in February from BLM that is far in excess of the entire event’s gross budget.

WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO NOW.
We are prepared to file an appeal with the BLM in Sacramento and Washington to contest these fees, and concurrently file an application for a ‘stay’ to keep our permitting process moving forward during the appeal process, which could take up to two years. We intend to show that BLM is in error in its cost estimate for our little event, and further, that bias, prejudice, and unfair treatment has occurred numerous times at our events. Those of you who’ve receive citations know what we’re talking about here. They simply ‘don’t’ like us’ but that has no bearing on the facts unfortunately.

We have a meeting scheduled with BLM for this Thursday here in the Las Vegas office to begin this process and attempt to talk some sense into these guys. I/E: How can you charge more than the event brings in for LE alone? Maybe we’ll just hire cops and not have any potties? For that matter, maybe the cops will let us s**t in their armored Chevy Suburban cruisers out on Roach Lake? Dunno. We’re pretty sure that we will prevail in this effort, and it’s a very challenging and productive time right now and a lot of work is going on behind the scenes on many levels to make the May event happen. This letter is keeping you all in the loop. This letter is pulling back that curtain. Many of you just want to come to the event, set up and have fun, and we love that and we love you, but many of you also want to know what’s going on behind the scenes too. Many of you find this process fascinating, you nerds.
That’s what this letter is about.

What does this situation mean? Is Dark Skies – The Singularity Event getting canceled? Moved? Turned into a Pentecostal Snake show? Are we going full on commercial and hiring the Chilly Peppers to pay for the cops? NO WAY! That will never happen. The May event is ON and we’re doing it on Roach Lake, May 17-20, just like we always have. What this means quite frankly is that we have to jump through yet more hoops in order to use the land that we own and pay for, from the Bureaucracy that we pay for too. We know our rights, we have the facts, and we have YOUR support in producing one of the best events on the west coast. And that feels pretty damn good guys. We also have some of Burningman’s resources now being brought to bear on this situation as well and we are extremely grateful for that. Additional resources are coming on line even as we speak. The reason is, that we are ethical and responsible; the facts are that we are in the right, and that BLM is simply wrong in trying to over regulate us and regulate us out of existence. BLM’s Cost Recovery Estimate is simply in error.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?
What do we need from you guys now? What can you do to help? Well for starters, we are NOT going to start a letter writing campaign. And, we are not going start calling BLM and whining about this situation. Also, no picket lines or clown, bunny, or santa rampages at their offices either; it will do no good at this point, trust us. We need to work collectively as a group within the letter of the law and BLM’s regulations to find a solution to this problem. This is not the time for emotions, this is the time for clear rational action and we are about to do just that. Again, we’re not asking you to DO anything at this point except buy tickets; we just really want everyone reading this to more fully understand what goes into events of this type. One can only imagine the pain the Burningman has gone through in figuring this out over the past 15 years. Anyone who thinks this is easy should give it a try sometime. G’head, we dare you.

THE APPEALS PROCESS
Want some more info? Ok then, in the spirit of both community and true open source here is the basis for our complaint and for what will become the appeal should that unfortunate action become necessary. And we really hope it can be avoided at our meeting in two days. This is our rationale for appealing fees in excess of the event’s total budget. We allege the following:

1.	That BLM is over charging us for Law Enforcement for our event far in excess of that called for in other events of this type. BLM standards for ‘all ages family events’ are one law enforcement officer per 1000 participants. Our current ratio is 1/90. (see #7 below)
2.	That a history of abuse, bias, and discrimination exists and that our event is being treated differently than any other events of this type. This affects us adversely and therefore a stay should be granted to allow the permitting to proceed.
3.	That arbitrary and capricious standard’s are being applied to us on many levels.
4.	That we have a history of just one stipulation violation in four previous events on the same site, which was minor and promptly corrected. (fireworks)Therefore there is no reason to have three observers as part of our cost recovery estimate or stipulations. (see #7 below)
5.	That though we have complained in writing to BLM about abuse and dereliction of duties by LE on two different occasions, those complaints went unanswered and ignored and instead we find ourselves in the current situation.
6.	That BLM is attempting to charge us an amount, greater than the total gross budget of our event. This precludes the event from ever happening. This not only violates our civil rights, but that it negates BLM’s mandate to preserve our public lands for public use. In short, we believe BLM is attempting to regulate us out of existence and exclude us while allowing other events of this type to occur. This affects us adversely and therefore a stay should be granted to allow the permitting to proceed.
7.	That in our four events held on this site, and contrary to BLM’s own internal regulations, no After Action Reports have been filed for any of our events, and that therefore, this shows neither precedent nor reason for our user fees being increased for event number 5 by a factor of over 1600%. This affects us adversely and therefore a stay should be granted to allow the permitting to proceed.
8.	That the Closure area that BLM is requiring us to adhere to is 350 times larger than Burningman’s per capita. This huge closure area is completely unworkable for an event of this size. We wish to be held to the same standard as Burningman in this regard. Precedent has been set for these types of events. This affects us adversely and therefore a stay should be granted to allow the permitting to proceed.

As you can see, we’ve done quite a bit of work on this matter and we’re fairly confidant that we will prevail once the facts supporting these claims have been presented, and rest assured that we do have the documentation to back this stuff up. If any of YOU have anything to add to this please contact us OFF LIST and get involved. This is going out to too many lists (worldwide) to have public dialogs on all of them, though we would happy to discuss it on the main DS/Sing list which is here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DARKSKIES_LASVEGAS/
And remember that BLM and LE is already on most of our lists anyway in case you hadn’t guessed. (Hi guys)
We’re not looking for emotional or hostile responses. This is not ‘fight the man’ time, but your ideas are certainly welcome and encouraged. What are we missing here?

That’s pretty much it. Fun reading huh?

GOOD NEWS
Now for some good news! We have over a dozen theme camps signed on. We have a truck load of art on the way from LA and we’re going to have a massive art gallery in center camp, (whoo hoo!). We also have major pyro and fire art coming in from all over the west coast, and tickets sold in 8 states so far. YOUR SUPPORT is the key to making this all happen. Thank you all! To be quite honest, what we need is to sell tickets and we have been selling pretty well so far so thank you for that too. The current count is somewhere around 180 tickets sold in advance, which puts us farther ahead than any other event we’ve done and well on the way to reaching our cap, which will be somewhere around 600 or 700 people.
Please visit our website at
http://darkskies.vegasartists.com/index.php
to learn more about Dark Skies – The Singularity Event and to sign up to help out on site. Volunteers are the key to making this work so please get involved.

Thank you again for your continued support of YOUR southwest regional burn. Thank you for buying tickets. Thank you for helping. And thank you for daring to dream big with us and make this happen, in this wonderful venue, and on this level of both complexity and content. With your love and support, this is going to completely and totally rock. Because as we’ve always said since May of ‘05: ‘we just found the site, it is YOU who make the event so special’.
And you do.

Much dusty love,

List consolidation 101.

Greetings! We think it’s really neat that so many lists have sprung up around Dark Skies and Singularity. Unfortunately, this also means that may of us are scattered and that the overall ‘signal to noise ratio’ is very high, and that not all the information being presented is making it to all the participants. We simply can’t keep track of it all.

Now, we’ve got no problem with anyone starting lists on any server about these events. We think it’s pretty cool actually. But we need to request please that the ‘Official’ Dark Skies – The Singularity Event list is this one
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DARKSKIES_LASVEGAS/

This list currently has over 300 people on it, making it by far the largest list pertaining to these events around. No mater what list you choose to use therefore, we are requesting that everyone associated with these events in any way be on this list. This is the main official list for DS/Sing. This is where we will be posting most if not all major information about Dark Skies – The Singularity Event. From there, information can be forwarded to the four winds.

We are becoming overwhelmed by the amount of email being generated by the upcoming event, and we’re still 4 months out! So we’re trying to consolidate information into neat little packages, by department and otherwise, so that the flow of information can be disseminated in a logical manner. Please help us do this and get on that list.

Thank you all and as always; THANK YOU to all of our awesome volunteers for making this event so special!

Greetings from The Singularity Core…

We are very excited to announce that tickets to Dark Skies – The Singularity Event, have now gone on sale, and our web site is live and ready for action. Which means theme camps and artists can now register online.

D.S./Singularity is YOUR South West regional event! And, it represents a major step forward in the regional network as a whole.

Dark Skies – ‘The Singularity Event’ will be held May 17-20, 2007 on Roach Lake. As always, this is a leave no trace event, there are no in-out privileges and there is no vending of any kind, except for ice sales. There are no pets allowed, and kids under 18 must be with parents or responsible adults. This is our 5th event on the beautiful Roach Lake playa south of Las Vegas and the second joint regional event held on the site.

WHAT’S DIFFERENT THIS TIME?
We’re glad you asked!
For starters, we are allowing kids 12 and under in for free this time! (With parents of course) We hope this encourages more families to attend this event and it is something that many of you have asked for, so there you go. Come on out and play with us mom & dad!

Second, the ticket price structure is as follows:
We are doing an ‘early bird special’ from NOW until Jan 16 for $40. It is hoped that these discounted tickets will encourage those of you with limited incomes to attend DS-Singularity and this is something that you asked for too. Those of you who can afford the higher tier tickets please buy those okay?

There are 100 of these discounted tickets available, so when they’re gone they are gone.

NOW until Jan 16 or until the first 100 are gone: $40
Jan 17 – April 1: $50
April 2nd – May 16: $75
At the gate: $100

Though the event permit ends on Sunday, we encourage you to camp with us on Sunday night. Stay and help clean up on your public land and, the decompression starts promptly at sundown. (It’s Vegas baby, we move fast around here!)

WE NEED YOUR HELP.
The heart of any event of this type is our wonderful volunteers. We need gate captains, earth guardians, and perimeter and security staff. We are also looking for someone with a box blade grader to help improve the road’s into the site. We need volunteers of all types and skills! Merely purchasing a ticket to this event does not constitute participation. Participation means getting involved. The way to get involved is to volunteer and help the event run smoothly. PLEASE GET INVOLVED, WE NEED YOU ALL. This is YOUR event, this is not a spectator event and it only works if we all help.

LATEST NEWS:
BLM has approved Dark Skies – The Singularity Event! We are a firm go and the site is locked for that weekend in May. We will be working with a ‘Hard Closure’ of the site again and we are currently talking to BLM about the exact dimensions and boundaries of that closure. We are much further ahead in the planning process than in any of the previous 4 events held on the site. This does not mean we are out of the woods, it means we’re simply getting better at this as we move along. And that is in no small part due to YOUR SUPPORT. When we say ‘This is your Regional Event’ that is not some catch phrase, we really mean it. We could not be doing this without your help. Thank you all!

Please visit the Dark Skies – The Singularity Event website here http://darkskies.vegasartists.com where you can find art and theme camp registration, tickets, volunteer opportunities, and other vital information. Many thanks and major props go out to ‘School Girl’ Randy Winsett for his hard work in making this site rock!

See you guys in May and thank you all so, so much!
BOOM
The DS/Sing ‘Core’.
